late last year has finally taken shape with Nokia today announcing the launch of it’s first ever android based, most awaited and speculated smartphone “Nokia X”. The Finnish handset maker’s India Managing Director P. Balaji today officially launched Nokia X in India. Nokia X is basically a merger of android’s software and Nokia Lumia’s hardware. Nokia is basically trying to corner the......
30% market share that is currently taken up by domestic brands such as Micromax, Lava and Karbonn etc. which manufacture bulk of entry level android smartphones. Apart from this Nokia is also aiming to develop taste for Lumia range of windows mobiles with similar tile based UI, bunch of other free Microsoft services such as Skydrive, Outlook, HERE Maps and the Lumia like design. However it has got a luke warm reponse from many tech blogs due to it’s below average performance. However Nokia may just past the test with Nokia X due to it’s brand value and android! But we may be proved wrong as well so better wait and watch.
The best thing about Nokia X is it’s rock solid build quality which has been Nokia’s USP for long. Apart from built quality what caught our attention was it’s cool design and interchangeable back covers which come in 6 vibrant colors.

Under the cover we have got 2 SIM slot as it is a dual SIM device and a microSD card slot. It has a 1,500 mAh battery and the good thing is that it is removable. Nokia X has a 4 inch capacitive touch screen but colors are not very accurate and touch sensitivity is just average. The OS is named as Nokia X platform and is a combination of Asha and Lumia UI. If you swipe across the screen either left or right you are taken to fastlane app which gives you a synopsis of all your recent activity on the device. All the app icons are stacked up on the main home screen hence the list keeps getting lengthy as you add more apps making it look cluturred. There is no app drawer functionality as we see in all the android powered smartphones.

As it is based on android platform, certain things are similar like the notification drawer and the settings menu. Currently Nokia X supports nearly 3/4 th of all the android apps but you may download more from third party app stores or just simply sideload the apps.
Performance wise Nokia X is not upto the mark with Snapdragon Dual core Cortex-A5 CPU compared to dual or quad-core CPUs based on Cortex-A7 CPUs found in majority of android smartphones in the same price range. GPU is also tad below the competition as Nokia X uses a Adreno 205 GPU based on 45 nm fabrication compared to 28 nm fabrication GPU’s found in most of the Android smartphones below Rs. 10,000.
RAM is also not upto the mark as it is a poor 512 MB RAM which is too weak to handle something as resource hungry as Android Jelly Bean. It should have atleast a 1 GB RAM to function smoothly. Even small apps will take some time to load with such measly RAM.
Camera is just average but at this price point you cannot expect anything better. It is a 3 megapixel camera and fails to capture color and details in the pics and videos. Worst thing is that it is not auto focus camera normally found in this price point and Nokia X also deficient of front facing camera.

Nokia X Price in India:
It has been priced for INR. 8,599 or $140 in India.
Verdict:
Nokia X has got the looks and great build quality. But if you are expecting too much from it then you may be in for some disappointment. If you don’t do much of skype or play heavy games and apps and are looking for some funky looking smartphone at affordable price then Nokia X is for you. We rate Nokia 3 on a scale of 5.
